Edward Holmes was Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr's nephew. The Edward J. Holmes collection of materials relating to Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. and his family consists of correspondence, estate matters, and various family documents.

Papers relating to Thayer's student and teaching career at Harvard Law School, work as a practicing attorney, and involvement in professional affairs. Includes notes, financial records (1884-1891), and examination questions from his student days at Harvard College and Harvard Law School, and studies for the Massachusetts Bar Association and Carnegie Foundation on the quality and content of bar examinations and methods of teaching in American law schools.

The Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. Addenda consists of items regarding Holmes's life, family, and work, which were donated to the library by various parties after the primary collection of his papers was made available to the public. The collection includes correspondence, scrapbooks and diaries, clippings, reprints, and family papers dating to the mid-nineteenth century.

Berger's papers relate mainly to the preparation and publication of his written works, and his role as an authority on judicial review, executive privilege, Presidential war powers, and impeachment.

Chiefly correspondence, biographical and family papers, together with drafts of writings, diaries, autographs, clippings, and memorabilia. The bulk of the collection is dated 1861-1935.
