Scope and Contents:
Samuel Shapleigh's ancestors, led by Alexander Shapleigh of Devonshire, England, settled in Kittery, Maine as early as 1635 and lived there for many generations. Upon the death of his father, Tobias, in 1769, Samuel inherited a parcel of the family's land in Kittery. This series contains documents related to that parcel, as well as other lands in Kittery owned and passed down by the Shapleigh family.
