Harvard Glee Club posters

Overview

Founded as a separate organization in 1858, the Harvard Glee Club was first organized in 1833 as part of the Pierian Sodality. The collection consists of posters documenting concerts performed by the Harvard Glee Club and its a cappella subset, Glee Club Lite, in conjunction with other Harvard musical groups including the Radcliffe Choral Society, Harvard-Radcliffe Collegium Musicum, the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra, and the Bach Society Orchestra.

The collection consists of posters documenting concerts performed by the Harvard Glee Club and its a cappella subset, Glee Club Lite, in conjunction with other Harvard musical groups including the Radcliffe Choral Society, Harvard-Radcliffe Collegium Musicum, and the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra, as well as other collegiate groups from the United States and abroad, such as the Yale Glee Club and Princeton Glee Club. The posters advertise performances of specific works by composers as well as concerts for holidays, football games against Yale and Princeton Universities, and special events, including the 10th anniversary of Collegium Musicum in 1988, the 150th anniversary of the Glee Club in 2008, and the retirement of long-time conductor Jameson Marvin in 2010.

Founded as a separate organization in 1858, the Harvard Glee Club was first organized in 1833 as part of the Pierian Sodality. Until 1918, the Glee Club, along with the Banjo Club and the Mandolin Club, was under one management, known as the Harvard Musical Clubs.
