Professorship of Natural History, relating to Pomeroy's Bond, 1806-1821 Digital

Scope and Contents

The financial records in this subseries document the payment of interest from two bonds for the sum of $8300, given to the President and Fellows of Harvard College by Samuel Wyllys Pomeroy, for the Massachusetts Professorship of Natural History and Botanic Garden. The documents include certificates from William Alline (d. 1825), Register of Deeds of Suffolk County, and the Sheriff of Suffolk County certifying that no encumbrances or attachments exist on Pomeroy's two brick houses and land used as collateral security for the bonds (1806); a memorandum listing interest paid to the Professorship (1812); an invoice to Harvard College for services rendered to settle the Pomeroy bond and mortgage (1817); an interest schedule calculating the payment of interest to the Professorship (1821); and two homeowners insurance policies from the Phoenix Assurance Company of London for Pomeroy's houses (1806-1807).
