O Plates
The Observatories' series with numbers prefixed by the letter "O" seem to be images taken in South America. The countries include Peru, Bolivia, .. Some of these images appear also in the South American Exploration photograph albums. The prints of these images in the albums are usually cyanotypes, whereas the prints in the O series are possibly silver halide.

Many of photo captions in this series come from a partial list of O plates which is also held in the Harvard University Archives. The "List of Peruvian Views" is another part of the Records of the Harvard College Observatory, its call number is UAV 630.271.5 .
