Arequipa to Cambridge correspondence, 1888-1927, 1888-1927
Scope and Contents
This subseries consists of correspondence from the director of the Boyden Station in Arequipa, Peru, to the director of the Harvard College Observatory in Cambridge, Massachusetts, providing an almost day to day account of the chief events at the Station. Much of the correspondence documents the Station's astronomical and meteorological research, provides a record of various research expeditions, and recounts everyday life at the observatory. Weekly letters from Arequipa document regular work performed at the station, record the photometry and photographic work completed, describe the weather conditions under which astronomical work was done, list the photo plates sent to Cambridge, note any financial remittances due or received, and describe local Peruvian political and social events of importance.
