Cambridge to Arequipa correspondence, 1889-1927, 1889-1927

Scope and Contents

This subseries consists of correspondence from the director of the Harvard College Observatory to Arequipa, Peru, directing the kinds of astronomical observations that were to be carried out at the station. Much of the material focuses on how instruments were to be used, what observations were to be made, and how the results of work were to be reported to Cambridge. Many of the letters in this subseries include comments about the work performed at Arequipa and note the discoveries of new celestial objects. Additional letters touch on the administration and financial management of the station.
