Scope and Contents

Consists of person files, primarily named for colleagues and students Potter mentored (Harvard Medical School students of color and Native American high school students). Files include correspondence, articles, notes, greeting cards, photographs, CVs, letters of recommendation, applications, and slide images (including one glass slide plate). Includes digital files from five CDs and three DVDs. Also includes records pertaining to the Department of Neurobiology, with photographs of members of the department. There are also several files of Potter’s personal records.

Subseries A includes a postcard in French and one item in English and Japanese.

Conditions Governing Access

Subseries A includes the following records that are restricted for 80 years: evaluative letters about students and personnel; student records and records pertaining to potential students; photographs of Native American High School Summer Program participants; and a patient record. Also includes the following records, which are restricted for 50 years: Native American High School Summer Program records; teaching records from Harvard Medical School and Morehouse College; and Harvard University records. The restriction period end dates are noted at the file level below.

Access to digital files in this subseries is also subject to the above restrictions. Technical access to digital files is premised on the availability of a computer station, requisite software, and/or the ability of Public Services staff to review and/or print out records of interest in advance of an on-site visit.
