Scope and Contents

Series III consists of records by or about the file subjects, including articles, correspondence, photographs, notes, greeting cards, CVs, letters of recommendation, and applications. Subseries titles correspond to Potter’s file drawers labeled "Colleagues" and "Colleagues II" and "Valuable reprints I," "Valuable reprints II," etc. Files are named for colleagues, students for whom Potter was a mentor, and contacts from Native American homelands. Subseries A includes some digital files extracted from several CDs and DVDs as well as several glass slides.

Subseries A includes a postcard in French and one item in English and Japanese.

Other person files may be found in Series IV, Series V, Series VII, and Series IX.

Papers are in English, with several items (usually reprints or letters) in German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Russian.

Conditions Governing Access

Subseries A includes the following records that are restricted for 80 years: evaluative letters about students and personnel; student records and records pertaining to potential students; photographs of Native American High School Summer Program participants; and a patient record. Also includes the following records, which are restricted for 50 years: Native American High School Summer Program records; teaching records from Harvard Medical School and Morehouse College; and Harvard University records. Subseries B includes letters of recommendation and personnel, student, and potential-student records that are restricted for 80 years. Also includes Harvard University records that are restricted for 50 years. The restriction period end date is noted at the file level below. Technical access to digital files in this series is premised on the availability of a computer station, requisite software, and/or the ability of the Public Services staff to review and/or print out records of interest in advance of an on-site visit.
