Scope and Contents

Consists of materials relating to Paul C. Zamecnik's career as a research scientist. This includes reference files from his time as a student, as well as research summaries, raw and analyzed research data, laboratory notebooks, research protocols and experiment procedures, and more general notes relating to laboratory research at Harvard Medical School, the Collis P. Huntington Memorial Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology, Hybridon, Inc., ZATA Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Records include raw and analyzed data; experiment procedures; research summaries; charts and images; laboratory notebooks and more general notes regarding data; and occasional related scientific journal reprints and correspondence. The research data covers topics related to Zamecnik's interests in biochemistry and gene repair over the course of his eighty-year career, including antisense oligonucleotides and their role in therapeutic gene repair, diadenosine tetraphosphate, protein synthesis, RNA and ribosomal structures, tRNA, microRNA, ribonucleotides, chloroplasts, Hodgkin's disease, Rous sarcoma virus replication and transformation, UV radiation and cancer, plaque assays, inhibition, gradients, melanin, malaria, Leishmania, prostate cancer, celiac disease, cell storage, ATP, and DNA modification, among others.
