Scope and Contents

Consists of paper reprints, newspaper and journal clippings, manuscript drafts for published and unpublished writings, typed lectures, and related correspondence generated and compiled by Fein as a product of his writing and publishing activities. Subject areas include: health care costs and financing; primary and preventive care; medical manpower supply and distribution; financing of medical education; universal and federally-funded health insurance; quality of health care; Medicare; financing biomedical research; Clinton-era healthcare reform; and other topics in medical economics. Newspaper clippings include editorials on health care, health insurance, the Holocaust, and presidential campaign fundraising, among other topics in health care, politics, and economics. Publications also contain manuscript drafts, book reviews, and related publication correspondence for Fein’s books: Financing Medical Education: An Analysis of Alternative Policies and Mechanisms (1971) with Gerald I. Weber; The Health Care Mess: How We Got Into It and What it Will Take to Get Out (2005) with Julius B. Richmond; and Learning Lessons: Medicine, Economics, and Public Policy (2010). Subseries also includes published hearings and discussions before the United States Congress in which Fein participated, concerning health care financing and national health insurance.
