Scope and Contents

Consists of annotated and unannotated manuscript drafts, reprints, newspaper and journal clippings, typed lectures, and related correspondence generated and compiled by Rashi Fein as a product of his writing, public speaking, and publishing activities. Writings and publications are primarily articles, lectures, and editorials concerning various areas in medical economics, including: health care costs and cost inflation; healthcare financing, including cost sharing, single-payer financing, and income tax credit financing; equity and access in health services; regionalization of healthcare services; national and universal health insurance; Medicare and Medicaid; medical manpower supply and distribution; and regulation versus competition in healthcare management and financing. Subject areas also include: financing of medical education and biomedical research; quality, productivity, and efficiency of healthcare services; geriatric care; the healthcare policies of various United States Presidential administrations; and the relative incomes and social positions of African Americans. Series also contains published hearings and discussions before the United States Congress, concerning health care financing and national health insurance; and manuscript drafts and publication correspondence for Fein’s books, including Financing Medical Education: An Analysis of Alternative Policies and Mechanisms (1971) with Gerald I. Weber, The Health Care Mess: How We Got Into It and What it Will Take to Get Out (2005) with Julius B. Richmond; and Learning Lessons: Medicine, Economics, and Public Policy (2010).
