Correspondence, September-October 1795 Digital
Scope and Contents
Captain Joseph H. Woodman writes from St. Lucia about selling cargo of fish, shoes, flour, rum, and other goods to the government, and terms of payment in cotton, coffee, and sugar, as well as the loss of his lumber due to bad weather and poor treatment of Americans by the French following ratification of the Jay Treaty. Martin Parry of Portsmouth discusses the fate of Edmund Randolph (1753-1813), who resigned as Secretary of State after a scandal involving his relations with the French government; Parry believes Randolph, at one point known as a friend of President Washington, will convince the public of his innocence.
