Subseries IB. Stereographs, 1870-1900

Scope and Contents

The 582 black and white stereographs form a striking and significant part of the Harry Chick Collection, and the order, groupings and names of the bundles of cards were left intact. Most of the cards are products of published series, and many contain titles and listings of the full stereograph series, but they are often not complete or even grouped together. The primary focus of the stereographs are railroads, locomotives and scenic views of both, but other types of transportation are grouped into their own bundles, as are select areas of New England. Some cards throughout the subseries have annotations on the back, and when such annotations appear, they generally include the names and numbers of the pictured trains. The majority of the stereographs likely date between 1870 and 1900. Most of the stereographs are images of America railroads, but European and Canadian stations and depots are also included. The collector created the group titles in this series.
