Scope and Contents
Daybook of sales of rum, molasses, clove water, sugar, coffee, wood, indigo, flour, salt, cotton, rice, glass, and other goods, by John Heard in 1777-1780, sometimes paid in barter of labor or service, and accounts related to building, outfitting, and purchasing shares in privateers. Entries include Comeno Morris, who worked on a new schooner in 1779, John Lakeman, merchant and shipowner William Dodge, shopkeeper Dummer Jewett, Jacob Manning, Henry Spiller, Francis Hovey, sailor William Wise, innkeeper Jacob Treadwell, and Lucy Hodgkins. Vessels referenced include the sloops Success, Polly, and Betsey, schooner Martha, and brigs Rebecca, Nabby, and John.
