Biography

Egon Joseph Wellesz was an Austrian, later British composer, teacher and musicologist, notable particularly in the field of Byzantine music. Wellesz composed at least 112 works with opus numbers as well as some 20 without numbers. He married Dr. Emmy Stross, an art historian in 1908. He died in Oxford, England in 1974 and is buried in the Zentralfriedhof (Vienna Central Cemetery) in Vienna, Austria.
