Scope and Contents:

Collection consists of John Mills Browne's student notebooks from his time at Massachusetts Medical College of Harvard University (later Harvard Medical School). In these notebooks, Browne records lectures by Walter Channing, John Ware, and Jacob Bigelow. Collection also includes Browne's pharmaceutical and household remedies recipe books, 1848 to 1852.

The Richard John Kitz papers, 1950-2004, document the administrative, teaching, and research activities of Richard J. Kitz, Henry Isaiah Dorr Professor of Research and Training in Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School and Chief of Anesthesia at Massachusetts General Hospital. Kitz later served as Faculty Dean for Clinical Affairs at Harvard Medical School from 1994 to 1999.

Overview: The William Heberden papers, 1740-1786 (inclusive), contain manuscripts by English physician William Heberden (1710-1801) about the use of amulets and magic in medicine, a lecture on the medicinal uses of plants, and notes and prescriptions. Also includes correspondence addressed to Heberden from Stephen Hales (1677-1761), who reports his successful use of ventilators on ships and discusses the evils of strong liquor; a few letters of others concerning cure for bladder stones; obituaries;...
