Subseries A has legal documentation and information pertaining to the installation of the contents of Winthrop’s home, including folders relating to Harvard’s and Winthrop’s efforts to organize and prepare the collection for its move to Harvard including correspondence from moving companies, invoices, correspondence, inventories, lists, cataloging cards, architectural drawings, and other legal papers.

Subseries B contains correspondence, inventories and floor plans of objects in Winthrop’s home, photographs of Winthrop’s home and artwork, and lists of these photographs. The last item in the list (Interior views of the residence of Grenville L. Winthrop, New York [negatives]) is located in a small, 4 × 6 photograph box (box 18) that contains ten rolls of negative photographs (A through J).
