Daumier Sculpture: A Critical and Comparative Study, April 30-June 23, 1969

Scope and Contents

Ms. Wasserman's exhibition about Honoré Daumier ran for 2 months in 1969, but was one of her most recognized contributions to the art world throughout the duration of her career. Thus, the papers here include pre-exhibition research starting in 1960, and span throughout Ms. Wasserman's tenure at the Fogg well into the 80's. The research that went into mounting this exhibition and the considerable response from the art world is extremely well documented within these folders.

Of special note in this subseries are the folders of correspondence concerning fake Daumiers. Ms. Wasserman took very seriously every inquiry that was brought to her attention. These folders contain not only correspondence, but also pictures and detailed explanations as to why these pieces are indeed fakes.
