Series III: Harvard Art Museums Photograph Collection, 1927-2000

Scope and Contents

This series contains images pertaining to various aspects of the Harvard Art Museums. This includes images taken in the Fogg Museum, Busch-Reisinger Museum, and Arthur M. Sackler Museum of interiors, exteriors, exhibitions, events and individuals. Images of Harvard and Harvard Art Museums’ publications are also included in this series. The Sackler Museum, Otto Hall, and other buildings and spaces from around Harvard University are highlighted, and landscapes, portraits, and staff photographs are also housed in this series. These images were added to the collection in 2010. The images exist as photographs, negatives, slides, or transparencies.

The Harvard Art Museums Archives is the official repository for institutional records and historical documents in all formats relating to the Fogg Museum, the Busch-Reisinger Museum, and the Arthur M. Sackler Museum, 1895 to the present. Its collections include papers of individuals and groups associated with the museums' history, including records of past exhibitions, architectural plans, photographs, scrapbooks, and memorabilia, as well as correspondence with collectors, gallery owners, museum professionals, and artists throughout the twentieth century. Its holdings also document the formation of the museums' collections and its mission as a teaching institution.
