Processing Information

Series II, is divided into two subseries. Subseries A contains correspondence received in the initial accession (ARCH.2003.12). The correspondence arrived in the archives filed in letter-boxes labeled "Personal Letters," followed by a date range. There were eight such chronological groupings, 1927-1948. Letters within each box were arranged alphabetically by correspondent, an arrangement presumably done by Agnes Mongan. This arrangement has been left untouched. Letters within folders are not filed chronologically. Subseries B contains correspondence from the second accession (ARCH.2003.18), and arrived bundled in the original envelopes. There was no apparent order to the bundles; thus the processor arranged them in chronological order. The processor also inserted any loose correspondence from the first accession into this chronological arrangement. The second accession also contained three folders of correspondence from the 1970s, which was in rough alphabetical order with penciled notations in Agnes' hand. These were consequently added to Subseries A as a chronological grouping, 1976-1978.. All letters were unfolded and attached to their original envelopes.
