2 foldersCollection consists of a history of New Hampshire Woman Suffrage Association; a report of the annual meeting, 1907, and signed statements advocating the enfranchisement of women by delegates to the New Hampshire Constitutional Convention, 1902-1903.
HISTORY
Armenia S. White and her husband Nathaniel, of Concord, were among those who founded the New Hampshire Woman Suffrage Association in December 1868, following the founding of the New England Woman Suffrage Association earlier that year. Affiliated with the American Woman Suffrage Association, New Hampshire Woman Suffrage Association campaigned for woman suffrage on a variety of fronts. In 1871 it secured for women the right to serve on school committees, and in 1878, school suffrage for women. In 1903 a state Constitutional Convention passed an amendment to strike the word "male" from the clause on voter qualifications; it was voted down by the male electorate, however. A later attempt (1907) to grant women municipal suffrage was also unsuccessful. For additional historical information, see #1082.

These papers of the New Hampshire Woman Suffrage Association fill two folders of the Woman's Rights Collection, which was given to Radcliffe College in August 1943 and formed the nucleus of the Women's Archives, later the Schlesinger Library. The material in this series was prepared for microfilming in October 1990 by Kim Brookes. It was microfilmed as part of a Schlesinger Library/University Publications of America project.
