This scrapbook contains clippings on women's higher education which reflect Arthur Gilman's overriding interest in the subject. It includes clippings on the history of the Harvard Annex (its institutional growth and student activities), reports on other United States colleges for women, and on women's colleges in England. The articles, some of which are annotated by Gilman noting errors in news-papers, are arranged in chronological order, with some exceptions, and cover the period 1876 to 1914.

BIOGRAPHY

Arthur Gilman, (for biographical details see RA.A/G487a) and his wife Stella Scott Gilman, were the initiators of Radcliffe College and in 1886 founded the Gilman School for Girls in Cambridge, later the Cambridge School of Weston.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

This scrapbook was given by the Gilman family to the college and was transferred to the College Library in 1944.
