BIOGRAPHY
Mabel Harris Lyon was a devoted Radcliffe alumna. During her undergraduate days she assisted Miss Coes in her office and from then on, her service to Radcliffe was practically continuous: secretary of her class for many years; director, secretary, vice-president, and president of the Alumnae Association; college Trustee, 1921-1926; president of the Iota chapter of the PhiBeta Kappa.
Lyon's graduate work was done at Radcliffe and the Graduate School of Education at Harvard, from which she received her Ed.M in 1925. She taught at the Cambridge Latin School from 1897 until her marriage to Professor David Gordon Lyon in 1910 and continued to teach private pupils in her own home for many years thereafter.
Two years before her death, she was appointed by the Harvard Corporation as Advisor of Women, Graduate School of Education at Harvard.

This collection was given to the Schlesinger Library in 1967 by Mary Meehan of the Harvard Archives, who found the material among the papers of Professor David Gordon Lyon, Mabel Lyon's husband. They were transferred from the Library to the Archives in 1975.
