Commonplace book of S.A. Browne, 1871? Digital
Scope and Contents
Commonplace book, kept by a young woman from Massachusetts who traveled to, and possibly studied at, Oberlin College. Entries include lists of names (fellow students?), class titles, expenditures, accounts of trips between Charlestown and Oberlin by carriage, recipes, health remedies, history questions, excerpts re: poet Thomas Hood, etc. "S.A. Browne, 39 Decatur St. Charlestown, Mass." is written in ink at the bottom of the first page. It is possible this is the creator of the book, but this information cannot be verified. No one with that name, nor with any close variant, studied at Oberlin College in the 19th century.
