Yann Weymouth Collection

Scope and Contents

The collection consists most notably of 9 boxes of Yann Weymouth's sketchbooks and meeting notebooks recorded during his architectural career from 1963 through 2000. The collection spans 40 years of design work and provides fresh insight into the design development of the projects he worked on, many of which are museums and other cultural institutions, including I.M. Pei's Glass Pyramid Entrance to the Louvre in Paris. The collection also includes some related publications and photographs.

Biographical / Historical

Yann Ralph Weymouth (Harvard BA Class of ’63) was born in France and pursued his higher education studies in the United States, first at Harvard for his undergraduate education and immediately after at MIT for his graduate studies in Architecture. Upon graduation he worked for I.M. Pei where, as an Associate, was intimately involved in the design of notable projects such as the East Wing of the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, and the gravesite for Senator Robert Kennedy at Arlington Cemetery. He was also the lead designer for the first MIT Media Lab in Cambridge, Massachusetts (under the direction of I.M. Pei and working with Nicholas Negroponte), the Glass Pyramid Entrance to the Louvre in Paris, and other facilities for the Louvre that cover over 300,000 square feet of museum space. Since the early 1990s he was Associate at Arup (London office), Senior Associate at Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM, London office), Vice President at Arquitectonica (Miami, Florida office) and Senior Vice President at Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum (HOK, Tampa, Florida office).
