Biographical / Historical

Open Letters is a student publication at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design that was founded in 2013 by two graduate students, Chelsea Spencer (MDes 2014) and Michael Leef (MArch 2014). Originally a biweekly zine, issues are printed and distributed at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and posted on the publication’s website. A complete run of issues is held by the Frances Loeb Library.

In 2017, editors of the Open Letters editorial board invited editors of student publications to a daylong symposium at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Titled, Open Issues, the event was held on April 6, 2017 at Gund Hall in Cambridge, Massachusetts and brought together 51 editors representing 28 different student led publications. Attendees of the event provided issues of their publications to be used for a display in the Frances Loeb Library.
