General note
Note: The 53 albums contain photographs assembled and arranged by Henry Hobson Richardson, ca. 1870-1885. The use of the photographs as visual reference source books in the Richardson office has been well-documented in a number of biographical and critical studies.
Note: The albums were briefly discussed and listed in the studies of the Richardson library by Henry-Russell Hitchcock and Mary Patricia May Sekler. A variety of publications by James O'Gorman provides more complete description and analysis of the Richardson library and its contents. O'Gorman's H.H. Richardson and his Office (Cambridge, 1974) and the contemporaneous description of the firm's premises published in The American Architect (Vol. XVI, No. 470) are especially valuable.
