The collection contains a diary and travel ephemera chronicling Cutler’s experiences traveling in France, England, Scotland, Italy and Switzerland with classmate Carl Richard Hauers (AB 1923) and members of his family from June 16, 1924 to September 1, 1924. The diary notes his adventures, visits, and discoveries traveling in Europe. The travel ephemera including a United States passport, a dinner menu, airline flyer and ticket, golf scorecards, and a passenger list, provide a permanent record of Cutler’s trip.

Biographical note

William Worcester Cutler, Jr., insurance broker, was born on August 11, 1901, in Brookline, Massachusetts to William Worcester and Alice (Rust) Cutler. He received his Harvard AB in 1923 and MBA in 1925. Following graduation from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, Cutler worked in advertising and promotion for the Seaver-Howland Press in Boston, Lincoln & Smith Press of Boston, and the New England Council. In 1930, he began working for the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States. Cutler served as director of the Boston Life Underwriters Association from 1946 to 1948, and in the mid-1950s opened his own insurance office. Cutler also served as president of Goodwill Associates of Morgan Memorial from 1962 to 1963. Cutler died on July 4, 1996.

Cutler married Mary V. Johnston in 1940; they had one son, William Worcester Cutler III (born 1941), a graduate of Harvard College (AB 1963).
