Overview
Photographic portraits of eleven individuals selected for the honor of a University Professorship at Harvard in the 1960s. "University Professorships" were instituted in 1935 and differ from many professorships at Harvard in their goal of facilitating scholarship that bridges traditional fields of study or departmental boundaries.

Exhibition and Publication Information
Portraits of Paul Herman Buck, John Franklin Enders, Paul Abraham Freund, Edward Sagendorph Mason, Edward Mills Purcell, Ivor Armstrong Richards and Paul Johannes Tillich, were displayed in Widener Library, Commencement week , 1962 and published in the Harvard Alumni Bulletin, February 2, 1963. Sir Hamilton Gibb, also a University Professor in 1962, sat for his portrait later. Edwin O. Reischauer became a University Professor in 1966 and Ernst Kitzinger became A. Kingsley Porter University Professor in 1967.
