C: Records relating to town administration and rent collection, 1715-ca. 1880s
Scope and Contents
This subseries contains records created and collected by the Trustees in their capacities as Hopkinton land owners and town administrators. The documents consist of copies of state legislative records, correspondence, minutes and votes of the Trustees, petitions to the Trustees, court records, and lists of tenants and their acreage. Correspondence pertaining to the office of the Hopkinton Register of deeds and the town's custody of land records is separated into its own sub-subseries. The General files sub-subseries includes documents created by John Jones, who was appointed as an agent of the Trustees to collect rent from Hopkinton tenants.

The Records of the Trustees of the Charity of Edward Hopkins are open for research with the following exceptions: Harvard University records in this collection are restricted for 50 years from the date of creation. Personnel and student records in this collection are closed for research through 80 years from the date of creation. Specific restrictions are noted in the inventory.
