Scope and Contents
This series contains a bound volume of outgoing correspondence from Harvard College Observatory astronomer Solon Irving Bailey while he was scouting new potential locations for Boyden Station in Hanover, South Africa. The letters are primarily addressed to Observatory director Edward Charles Pickering and discuss expenses, the sharing of scientific data, as well as descriptions of photographs.

Legibility
Copies of outgoing letters were created by a letter press process, in which ink was transferred onto tissue paper pages. The resulting copies are thus indistinct and difficult to read.
