Scope and Contents
This series contains documents either collected or created by Charles Pinckney Sumner while he was an undergraduate at Harvard College from 1794 to 1796 and in the years following his graduation. It contains his quarter bills (also known as term bills) from 1794 to 1796, the manuscript of a poem, Time, that Sumner read at the Harvard Commencement ceremony in 1796, the manuscript of another poem he wrote for a Phi Beta Kappa celebration in 1798, and the manuscripts of two articles Sumner wrote and published in the 1820s. One of these articles was a memoir about the student military company, the Martimercurian Band, of which Sumner was a member while a Harvard undergraduate; the other article is on the subject of English universities.
