Biographical / Historical

In November 1787, Winthrop was accused by Federalist newspapers of being the author of a broadside titled "Disadvantages of Federalism" which provided thirteen points against the ratification of the United States Constitution including that it would transfer Boston's trade to Philadelphia. Winthrop, under the pseudonym "Agrippa," responded with two anti-Federalist articles in the Massachusetts Gazette on November 23, 1787 and February 5, 1788.
