Biographical / Historical

Samuel Phillips (1752-1802; Harvard AB 1771) was a wealthy statesman of Andover, Mass. Phillips served as a Massachusetts state senator from 1780 to 1802, and was the President of the Massachusetts Senate from 1785 to 1802. He was elected Lieutenant Governor shortly before his death in 1802. In 1778, Phillips founded Phillips Academy in Andover.
