The folio-sized paper covered notebook contains Steward Andrew Bordman III's accounts with Harvard College from 1745-1753. The final page of text, signed on September 19, 1764 by Bordman's son, Andrew Bordman IV, settles the accounts.

Biographical / Historical

Andrew Bordman III was born in Cambridge on August 1, 1701. He received an AB from Harvard in 1719 and an AM in 1722. He succeeded his father as the College Steward in 1747, but was dismissed from the position on March 28, 1750 for "failing to place the students in Commons," after repeated requests by the Corporation. His Steward's accounts remained unsettled until 1764. Like his father, he was an active Cambridge citizen and served as a Register of Probate and a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas. He died on March 19, 1760.
