This subseries touches on Eliot's last years as President of Harvard University. It reflects his position as an elder statesman and a recognized authority on educational matters. It not only addresses Harvard University business but also includes a fair amount of correspondence with various organizations and associations documenting Eliot's involvement in social reform and philanthropic activities. These letters shed light on Eliot’s opinions on a wide variety of topics. Some of these topics include immigration reform, taxation, race relations, municipal reform, hygiene and health, sports, labor and business relations, women's suffrage, and education.
