General note

Recordings were made on May 30th, 1970 in the village of Maia, Megino-Kanghalass district (Menge-Khangalas uluuha) by the local folksinger and olonkho performer Piotr Filippovich Petrov (b. 1910). The recordings include conversations about the once renowned olonkhosut Grigorii Yegorovich Slobodchikov and his olonkho “Uol Tuigun bukhatyyr,” about collective stage performances of olonkhos, about contemporary young olonkhosuts, and about shaman singing.

The Eda Kuhn Loeb Music Library is the primary repository of musical materials at Harvard. The Music Library’s collecting mission is to serve music teaching and research programs in the Music Department and throughout the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
