The series has a strong focus on events promoted by the San Francisco based Family Dog and Bill Graham. In 1966 Chet Helms, a well-known rock promoter and free-spirit, teamed up with a hippy commune to form The Family Dog. The Family Dog employed a group of San Francisco artists—Wes Wilson, Victor Moscoso, Alton Kelley, Stanley Mouse and Rick Griffin—whose artwork has become synonymous with the psychedelic rock scene, peace movement and counter-cultural ethos.
