Biographical / Historical
The Bullard family was one of the first families to settle in Sherborn, Massachusetts. Lieutenant Benjamin Bullard (169?-1762) was a prominent Sherborn citizen who served as constable and highway surveyor. He married Miriam (Morse) Bullard (1700-1774) in 1721 and they had 8 children: Adam Bullard (1723-?; Harvard AB 1742), Deborah Bullard Twitchell (1725-?), Miriam Bullard (1727-1728), Colonel Samuel Bullard (1729-1807), Kezia Bullard Lealand (1731-?), Peter Bullard (1734-1809), Martha Bullard Lealand (1737-1806), and Captain Benjamin Bullard (1741-1834). Captain Benjamin Bullard began his military service at age 17. He served in the French/Indian War and was present at the battles of Lexington and Bunker Hill during the Revolutionary War. He resigned from service in 1779. He briefly acted as Sherborn Selectman in 1780 and then moved to Hopkington, Massachusetts where he lived for the remainder of his life. Sherborn, Massachusetts is a small semi-rural community located about 18 miles southwest of Boston. The town was first settled in 1652 and incorporated in 1674.
