Mostly good condition. A few letters are torn in places. Some letters have sustained insect damage and/or staining. In many cases it is unclear which envelopes belong to which letters within the collection.

.2 linear feet ((1 box) )Collection of letters written primarily to Janetta Parladé. Some letters are written solely to her husband, Jaime Parladé, or to both of them jointly. Letter writers include documentary film maker Julian Jebb, music critic Desmond Shawe-Taylor, physicist Derek Jackson (Janetta Parladé's fourth husband), interior decorator Ed Gilbert, Janetta Parladé's mother, Janet Beatrix Woolley, and Janetta Parladé's half-sister Angela Culme-Seymour.
Be advised that the letters from Julian Jebb include a copy of a letter written by Mr. Jebb to his partner, Al Young, directly preceding Mr. Jebb's death by suicide. Al Young enclosed the copy in a letter to Janetta Parladé regarding Jebb's death.

Janetta Parladé was a noted socialite with connections to members of the Bloomsbury Group of writers, intellectuals, philosophers and artists.
