Anna May Wong compositions and collected music

Scope and Contents Besides producing and starring in Tschun-Tschi, she composed the music and lyrics to the show’s Chinese songs. It opened August 14th, 1930, at the Neues Wiener Schauspielhaus in Austria and ran for five weeks.Included in the collection are about 40 pages of manuscript music, written by Wong (who was fluent in German). Includes three-pages of manuscript sheet music, as well as printed sheet music and typed sets of lyrics in Danish and English, for the song Før Vi Skilles (Before We Part). Written by Flemming Geill (lyrics) and Henry Willum (music), the song was written specifically for Wong and it was part of her repertoire in her 1935 tour of Denmark.

Scope and Contents There are about 90 pages of manuscript music, including multiple songs from the musical 1929 The Circle of Chalk, which was based on a popular 1924 German adaptation of a 13th-century Chinese classic zaju verse play. At the behest of her agent, Wong made her theatrical debut in The Circle of Chalk in London in 1929, appearing alongside the Australian actress Rose Quong and a young Laurence Olivier. Included is a four-page, manuscript presentation copy of, “The Long Departed Lover.” The title page is signed by Lambert and dedicated to Wong, and on the last page there is a second inscription which reads “to Wong Liu Song, with Love from Constant.” Also included is a printed copy of his earlier work, “Four Songs by Li-Po” which is inscribed “To Miss Anna May Wong / from the composer / who hopes he may one day hear her sing them.”
