III. Enlistment forms for John Storer's Company

Scope and Contents

All documents are to enlist men as private soldiers to serve King George the Second in John Storer's "Company of Foot", in the County of York, Maine, and are signed by the enlistee and primarily by John Storer or another officer. Enlistment was for an "Expedition against the French settlements at Cape-Breton, and the islands adjacent." Each document also lists where the soldier was born and his age as of that day and notes he received 1 pound enlisting money. Some men did not sign a signature, but "made their mark" with an X. Only one item is entirely in manuscript, the rest are printed forms with manuscript additions. The names on the forms are often have multiple variant spellings on the same form; names have been standardized using printed lists of men serving in each company.
