Biographical / Historical

The American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Mission (ABCFM) was founded in 1810 by Congregationalists. In 1961 the ABCFM became the United Church Board for World Ministries (UCBWM), an agency of the new United Church of Christ. This reorganization was overseen by Carleton.

Arrangement

The papers were formerly housed in 23 boxes. They are arranged acccording to the old box numbers in three series: American Board (1-6); Congregational Christian Churches (6-13); and Miscellaneous correspondence and reports (13-23).

  1. Box 1 = boxes 1:1 - 4:22
  2. Box 2 = 4:23 - 7:22
  3. Box 3 = 8:1 - 11:68
  4. Box 4 = 12:1 - 15:57
  5. Box 5 = 16:1 - 19:44
  6. Box 6 = 20:1 - 23:26.
