General note

Sub-Series II-A: Articles submitted for publication in The Mask: Most of the articles in this series were written by Craig, under various pseudonyms; most of the documents in this series are in Craig's hand, though some are typewritten (presumably by Dorothy Nevile Lees), with corrections by Craig. In some cases the articles are not completely finished; in a very few cases there are notes only. When the publication date or issue number are known, that information is marked on the folder. Besides Craig and Lees there are no other authors represented.

Sub-Series II-B: Mask Prospectuses: The form of prospectuses varies greatly: some are very general, some are for single volumes, or even single issues, some exist as designs only, and some are combined with subscription order forms.

Sub-Series II-C: Mask proofs, dummies, pasted-up copies, contains working copies created by Craig for design and arrangement of single issues.

Sub-Series II-D: Mask indexes: The form of indexes varies greatly; all are hand-written (usually by Dorothy Nevile Lees); published indexes can be found in Series VII-A); most are for single volumes; a few are for specific subjects (Duse, Grasso, Edward Gordon Craig, theatre-going in Italy).

Sub-Series II-E: Mask spine labels: Dorothy Nevile Lees kept a large number of these labels, presumably meant to be pasted on bound volumes. Distribution and use of these labels is not known.

Sub-Series II-F: Marionnette prospectuses: This series contains only one edition of the Marionnette prospectus, undated but probably issued in 1918.

Sub-Series II-G: Marionnette proofs: Small selection, most with hand-written instructions from Craig to Lees.

Sub-Series II-H: Marionnette spine labels: Dorothy Nevile Lees kept a large number of these labels, presumably meant to be pasted on bound volumes. Distribution and exact use of these labels is not known.
