Biographical / Historical

Augustus Choate Hamlin, a native of Bangor (Me.), served as assistant surgeon in the United States Army, Maine Infantry Regiment, 2nd from 1861 to 1862, and then became a brigade surgeon in the United States Army Corps, 11th. After the war, he served as surgeon-general of Maine.
