Biographical note
Clyde E. Keeler was a geneticist, artist, and cultural historian. Keeler earned his bachelor’s degree and first master’s degree from Denison University in 1923 before earning a PhD from Harvard University in the late 1920s.
Keeler decided to pursue research instead of medicine because he thought it would allow him to help more people. He published on a variety of topics including single-gene mutations in blind mice and albinism in Cuna Indians on the San Blas Islands in Panama. Keeler worked as a geneticist at many institutions including Harvard and the Central State Hospital in Georgia before he retired in 1975.
Throughout his education Keeler created observational drawings and illustrated many of his own scientific publications.
