Photographic images of the Ware Collection of Glass Flower Models

Scope and Contents

Many of the photographs feature the mounted glass flower models. Images include photographs, cyanotypes, negatives, lantern slides, glass plate negatives, transparencies, and a research collection of about 500 slides, dating from the 1950s when the models were used as a teaching collection at Harvard.

The photographs are filed alphabetically by scientific name and various photograph types are filed together.

Collection materials are in English and German.

Conditions Governing Access

The collection is open for research by appointment with the following exceptions: Harvard University records are restricted for 50 years; Harvard personnel and student records are closed for 80 years. Some restrictions have been noted in the finding aid. Other records may need to be evaluated by archives staff in advance.

Researchers must register and provide one form of valid photo identification. Please contact botref@oeb.harvard.edu for additional information.

The Harvard University Herbaria houses five research libraries that are managed collectively as the Botany Libraries.The Economic Botany Library specializes in materials related to economic botany or the commercial exploitation of plants. The Archives of the Economic Botany Herbarium of Oakes Ames houses unique resources including personal papers, institutional records, field notes and plant lists, expedition records, photographs, original artwork, and objects from faculty, curators, staff, and affiliates of the Economic Botany Herbarium.
