Scope and Contents

Copy of typescript letter from Anne Sweeney to Beatrix Farrand tells her she has been substituting for Miss Snow as secretary to Robert Woods Bliss. Anne found the complete set of Sargent's Silva of North America in a bookstore and Mildred Bliss agreed with Ethel Burnet Clark's intervention to buy it for Dumbarton Oaks. There have not been many visitors to Dumbarton Oaks in January and February. She reports the "Underworld" is under construction and she will move into her new quarters in the future. Anne is taking Systematic Botany classes which she finds interesting. Miss [Persus Warren] Mason married Stephanus Van Cortlant Morris [Stephen van Courtlandt Morris] of New York in a pretty church wedding with flowers on the altar from Dumbarton Oaks. Her position is being filled by Mrs. [Elizabeth] Bland. Mildred and Robert Bliss are sorting through books, papers, and pictures deciding what to keep. The Government has finally moved out of the house and only a few of the staff remain in the museum, but they should be gone the first of March.
