Scope and Contents

Typescript letter with handwritten signature from Beatrix Farrand to John Thacher thanks him for his two recent letters. She asks him to jog her memory if he fails to hear from Mildred Bliss in a ten day interval about the salary for Anne Sweeney (Catalogue House Division). She reports that the orchids from the Director's House in Pasadena [Huntington Library and Art Gallery] will be sent in April when the weather is more conducive for their transit. She conveys Mildred Bliss's doubts about traveling to Dumbarton Oaks in the spring due to her work in California. She tells John Thacher that she will let him know if funds are needed in the Beatrix Farrand, Agent account. Beatrix Farrand reports on an air raid alarm resulting from the Japanese bombing of oil wells near Santa Barbara. She thanks him for welcoming her to Dumbarton Oaks and hopes that her visit will not cause any inconvenience. She and Max Farrand are planning on returning to Santa Barbara next winter.
